Pricing & metal market rates
Many items on Gold.to are priced based on the gold market, while others may be priced based on the appraisal value when it far exceeds the metal. Every 3 days during a 15 day period prices will drop in a reverse auction style system. On the 16th day the item reverts to the initial markup.
Yes, many items featured on Gold.to are tied directly to market prices and may fluctuate throughout the day. If you are watching a piece and the price shifts before you purchase, that movement reflects a genuine change in the underlying metal value — not a promotional adjustment. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay.
Live gold spot prices are widely available and easy to verify independently. Sites like Kitco, Gold Price, and the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) publish real-time and historical rates. We encourage you to check — transparency is the whole point.
No hidden fee's, item's are priced to sell and taxes are added at checkout. The listed price is the full item price at that moment dropping every 3 days until the 15th when it resets. Applicable taxes and shipping costs are shown clearly at checkout before you confirm your order. There are no surprise fees.
Authenticity & verification
Each piece is physically inspected before listing. We check for hallmarks (such as 375, 585, 750, 916, or 999 stamps indicating 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct, or 24ct gold respectively), and where hallmarks are absent or unclear, we use acid testing or XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis to confirm metal composition. We do not list any piece we cannot verify.
Yes, significantly. Solid gold means the entire piece is made of a gold alloy throughout — there is no base metal core. Gold-filled has a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal, while gold-plated has only a very thin surface coating. We sell solid gold only. Gold-filled and gold-plated items are not listed on gold.to.
Original certificates are included when they accompany a piece at the time of acquisition. Where no original certificate exists — as is common with preowned jewelry — we provide our own verification summary documenting the metal purity, weight, and testing method used. For pieces with significant stones, a third-party gemological report may also be included or available on request.
Stone grading & details
Stones are assessed and described to the best of our ability using standard gemological criteria: species and variety, estimated carat weight, colour, and visible clarity characteristics. For high-value stones — particularly diamonds above 0.5ct and significant coloured gems — we obtain or reference grading reports from recognised laboratories such as GIA, IGI, or similar. All stone descriptions are documented in each listing.
The majority of diamonds in our preowned inventory are natural, as lab-grown diamonds have only become widespread in recent years. Where we are able to confirm origin — through grading reports or testing — this is stated clearly in the listing. If origin is not confirmed, we say so. We will never misrepresent a stone's origin.
It depends on the stone. For small accent diamonds or common semi-precious stones, the metal value is typically the dominant factor. For larger or higher-quality diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, the stone value can equal or exceed the metal value.
